to hear from our State Representatives on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at 11:30am at the Doyle Convention Center,2010 5 th Avenue N., Texas City.
Guest Speakers are Congressman Randy Weber, State Senator Larry Taylor,
State Representative Mayes Middleton, and State Representative Dr. Greg
Bonnen. Randy Weber, R-District 14, has called the Gulf Coast home
for over 60 years. Prior to being elected to Congress, Weber served four years in the Texas State House. During his tenure, Weber served on the
committees of Environmental Regulation, Public Education, and as Vice Chair of Border and Intergovernmental Affairs. While serving in the Texas
House, Randy Weber authored landmark legislation to combat human trafficking and protect women, young girls, and boys – some as young as 12 years old. On the House Foreign Affairs
some as young as 12 years old. On the House Foreign Affairs committee, Weber continued the fight against human trafficking, as well as, co-sponsored legislation to strengthen our foreign policies and relationship with our allies across the globe.
Senator Larry Taylor, R-District 11, is a lifelong Texan and Baylor University graduate raised in Friendswood. Before his election to the Senate in 2012, Senator Taylor served five terms in the House of Representatives. Currently, Senator Taylor serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education and as a member of the following committees: Higher Education, Water and Rural Affairs, and the budget writing Finance committee. In 2017, Senator Taylor was appointed to the Texas Commission on Public School Finance, which explored ways to update and improve how Texas funds its schools. He also Co-Chairs the Joint Interim Committee to Study a Coastal Barrier System, which aims to identify methods of storm protection along the Texas Gulf Coast, and has served as a member of the Legislative Budget Board, a permanent joint committee responsible for developing budget and policy recommendations for legislative appropriations.
Mayes Middleton, R-District 23, lives in Wallisville, Texas. Mayes is a 7th generations Chambers County resident and Texan. Mayes was elected to the Texas House in 2018 to represent House District 23, encompassing Chambers County and part of Galveston County. Representative Middleton was appointed to the House Committees on Urban Affairs, Elections, and Local and Consent Calendars. Representative Middleton was also appointed to serve on the Policy Committee of the Texas House Republican Caucus.
Dr. Greg Bonnen, R-District 24, is a practicing neurosurgeon currently serving his fourth term in the Texas Legislature. District 24 is in Galveston County and includes League City, Friendswood, Clear Lake Shores, Kemah, Dickinson, Santa Fe, Hitchcock, Bayou Vista, Jamaica Beach, and Tiki Island. For the 86th Legislative Session, Representative Bonnen serves on the Appropriations Committee and serves as chair of the Appropriations subcommittee on higher and public education. Additionally, he serves as a member of the House Insurance Committee. Following the 86th Legislative Session, Rep. Bonnen was appointed to chair the Select Committee on Statewide Health Care Costs and was appointed to Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) funding structure oversight board. Representative Bonnen served on the
Appropriations Committee, Appropriations subcommittee on higher and public education, the Insurance Committee, and the joint interim committee on coastal barrier systems.
