The Friendswood High School Wrestling teams competed

Wednesday, April 7 at the Houston ISD Pavilion.

Both the boys and girls teams found success in the competition. The boys team placed second

overall with a score of 175.0 behind Conroe Caney Creek’s 204.0. The girls team proved

victorious in bringing home the District Championship, making them the first Girls Wrestling

team in school history to do so.

Head Wrestling Coach Matthew Byrd said he was impressed and excited for the team.

“These girls have worked hard for the past two years to make this happen,” Byrd said. “I am super proud of their efforts, character and ways they compete.”

Along with team victories, the athletes placed high in individual results, including eight

championship titles. The results are as follows:

GIRLS TEAM:

at 95 lbs Bailey Jarvis District Champion

at 110 lbs Rachel Barrett District Champion

at 119 lbs Maddie Sandoz 2nd place

at 128 lbs Elena Ellyson 2nd place

at 148 lbs Avery Beckman District Champion

at 165 lbs Carolyn Rodiguez 2nd place

at 185 lbs Alyssa Molina 3rd place

BOYS TEAM:

at 106 lbs Joseph Price District Champion

at 113 lbs Matthew Rodriguez 4th Place

at 120 lbs Lauro Pino District Champion

at 126 lbs Jeremy Price District Champion

at 132 lbs Jackson Jones 3rd place

at 145 lbs Aubrey Large 3rd place

at 152 lbs Oscar Martinez 3rd place

at 160 lbs Atticus Pearcy District Champion

at 170 lbs Yann Mimeau 4th place

at 182 lbs Garret Yount 4th place

at 195 lbs Jeff Otto 4th place

at 285 lbs Vincente Castillo District Champion

To add to the teams’ success, Byrd was awarded the title of Girls Coach of the Year.
