Saturday’s Election Day offered few surprises across Galveston County. Santa Fe’s Jason Tabor ran unopposed on his way to another stint of leading his city, while Keith Bell officially became Mayor of La Marque by garnering nearly 90 percent of the vote. Bell became Mayor Pro Tem following the resignation of Bobby Hocking and endeered himself to the community with the way he stepped up front during February’s historic Arctic blast, helping to feed over 1,500 people in the course of three days.
In a spirited contest, Mike Matranga won the Texas City ISD Trustee-At Large position by fending off the challenge of Russel Washington and unseating incumbent Nelson Juarez. Hal Biery ran unopposed to capture the TCISD Trustee District 6 position.
A day after opening its new STEAM Building, College of the Mainland continued its momentum as its Proposition A won nearly 53 percent of the vote. The win allows the issuance of $13.950 million in bonds for the purpose of COM refunding maintenance taxes notes while saving taxpayers more than $4.3 million.
Santa Fe’s City Council Places 2 and 3 now belong to Jason O’Brien and Melanie Pittman Collins, respectively.
