The La Marque CPAAA dedicated a portion of their meeting Tuesday night to honor a fallen hero, La Marque Fire Department Captain Jesse Turrubiate. Moments of reflections were shared by members of the La Marque Fire Department, La Marque Police Department, and the La Marque CPAAA. Time was given for a moment of silence to honor Jesse, followed by a message of scripture, encouragement and support by La Marque CPAAA Chaplain Care Team Co-Director, Rev. Jervie Windom.
Following a long period of not being able to meet due to the pandemic, the La Marque CPAAA returned to holding meetings in May of this year. Safety measures were incorporated at that time to adapt to the social distancing guidelines, these guidelines will remain in place for future meetings, events, and functions.
The CPAAA, now under the direction of liaison, LMPD Sgt. Gilberto Rodriguez, will be working alongside LMPD staff to resume the Citizens Police Academy. In February of 2020, citizen attendees were two classes in when the pandemic forced the cancellation of the remainder of the academy. Although the definite date has not been determined for when the academy will resume, information for applying to the La Marque Citizen’s Police Academy Class 12 can be obtained by emailing Sgt. Rodriguez at g.rodriguez@cityoflamarque.org
