Busy Weekend of Sports Ahead

There’s plenty for local sports fans to end the week, which starts Thursday with a host of volleyball matches and a pair of high school football games. The action continues on Friday and is capped off on Saturday when rivals Oklahoma and Texas square off in the annual Red River Rivalry. 

Wednesday: The Rockets continue their preseason schedule against the visiting Jazz at 7 PM. Space City Home Network begins coverage at 6:30 PM with the pregame show. 

Thursday: Two high school football games on the schedule as KSI visits state-ranked La Marque (Victory Sportsnet) and Santa Fe visits Iowa Colony at 7 PM.

There’s high school volleyball on the slate with Clear Brook at Dickinson, Clear Creek at Deer Park, and Clear Lake at Clear Springs starting at 6 PM.

The road to the state cross-country finals begins with district meets. The 24-6A meet will be at Hometown Heroes Park in League City at 7 AM, while the 20-5A district meet will be held at Centennial Park in Friendswood at 7 AM.

The college football weekend starts with Jacksonville State vs. Sam Houston State at Houston’s Shell Energy Field at 7 PM (CBS Sports Network).

Friday: High school football kicks off at 7 PM with Beaumont United at Ball, Friendswood at Angleton, state-ranked Hitchcock at Hallettsville, and Randle at Texas City (Victory Sportsnet).

Meanwhile, the high school volleyball schedule will have La Porte at Ball, Hitchcock at Hempstead, and La Marque at El Campo at 4:30 PM, followed by Santa Fe at Iowa Colony and Texas City at Friendswood at 6:30 PM.

Saturday: College football begins at 11 AM with Houston at Oklahoma State (TNT), followed at 2:30 PM by #6 Oklahoma vs. Texas at the Cotton Bowl (KTRK13). Florida at #5 Texas A&M (ESPN), TSU at Grambling (ESPN+), and Lamar at East Texas State (ESPN+) at 6 PM. Rice at UT-San Antonio (ESPNU) is at 6:30 PM.
