RESOLUTE ABOUT NOT MAKING NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

It’s that time again. The new year, 2018, is just a few
days away.
Time to hurry up and decide if this will be the year you
finally lose weight, figure out your income tax ahead
of April 15, get all your holiday gift shopping done
BEFORE Thanksgiving . . . the same tired, endless list
you make every year at this time.
It’s time for a change!
Resolve right now not to make any resolutions. You’re
just setting yourself up for failure. And failure is bad for
your self-esteem.
I know this from personal experience. And I truly
believe this comes from dwelling on areas of your life
where you feel like you’ve failed to meet certain expectations.
There’s nothing better for insuring poor results than
telling yourself you have failed repeatedly to keep previous
resolutions.
Why not take a different approach for 2018?
Instead of focusing on breaking resolutions, try pinpointing
ways to make things go better for you.
For example, don’t resolve to lose weight. Instead, be
proactive. Decide on ways to eat better, exercise more
and think positively.
You aren’t being unrealistic. You’re setting realistic
goals to improve your health and lifestyle. That’s
doable.
If you are tired of that last minute scramble to get your
taxes figured out, just set small goals that will help you
achieve this.
Start gathering up the necessary documents and info
once a week or whatever you need to do. If doing your
own tax return bogs your mind, the first thing on your
list is hiring someone else to do it.
Ask friends for recommendations, find that person
and let him/her help you get your act together. Do NOT
leave this until April. Trust me – I know. I’ve raised procrastination
to a fine art.
To get yourself to shop early for upcoming events,
pinpoint good times to shop. Post-Christmas sales,
January white sales, post-Valentine’s Day clearances
and similar occasions are great times to find bargains
well ahead of when they are needed.
Just remember, the idea here is to avoid making resolutions
that are doomed to failure right from the git-go.
This new year, resolve NOT to make resolutions.
