April 16, 1947, the industrial explosion that occurred in the Port of Texas City is still considered the deadliest industrial disaster in our country’s history. On September 17, 1961, Hurricane Carla hit the Texas Coast with winds of up to 187 mph. flooding over 90% of every Texas City Home. Then in March of 2005, there was an explosion at the BP refinery, killing 15 and injuring more than 180 workers.  Through it all, this little city has continued to grow, building one of the finest levee systems on the Gulf Coast, leaving us relatively unscathed after
Katrina, Ike and Harvey. We are a city of committed, involved citizens who give back at every opportunity; who relish our diversity, celebrate our community; becoming teachers, pastors, realtors, police officers, firefighters, business owners, investors, & civil servants. Again and again, we rise…from the ashes, from the murky water, from the wind. We rise and look to our neighbors to offer what help we can. We learn from our experiences and we prepare for the next time. Whether it is nature, industry, madness or some unnamed disaster, we know our government, our police force, our neighbors and our friends, are doing and will continue to do what is necessary to prepare us for whatever comes our way A city of wonderful people, beautiful statues peppered throughout the city, full sanctuaries on Sunday mornings, a parade for just about anything, a police force recognized for excellence, and a school system that is constantly growing and improving, the strong sense of community one finds here is a direct result of pulling together when the times get tough. Texas Strong, Texas Proud, Texas City.  Texas First Bank, Doreck’s Meat Market and JSC Federal Credit Union are proud to support  Texas City and it’s citizens
