The Dickinson Education Foundation hosted the first
Gator Ball Drop this past week. This fundraiser was
started to raise funds for students to continue their
higher education. The Education Foundation sold
2,313 golf balls for $3 each to community members,
teachers and students. Several corporate sponsors
participated including Gamma Construction,
IBI Group, Mackey Mechanical and Signature Eye
Center. Overall, the foundation raised approximately
$10,000 for scholarships. This scholarship money will
be awarded in $1,000 increments to graduating seniors
in May 2019. The Golf Ball Drop would not have
been possible without the assistance from the Dickinson
Volunteer Fire Department and the League City
Volunteer Fire Department.
Dickinson Education Foundation was proud to
award the first-place winner, JSC Federal Credit
Union, with $2,000. Cynthia Guerra, Assistant
Manager at the Dickinson Branch and her daughter
Adelynne, accepted the check on JSC’s behalf.
JSC chose to donate the funds back to the Dickinson
Education so that two additional scholarships of
$1,000 are available to seniors! Thank you JSC Federal
Credit Union for your continued support and generosity!
Dorothea Clay received a check for $1,000 for being
the second-place winner from the Gator Golf Ball
Drop. Clay has worked for Dickinson ISD for 30 years
as the district’s mail carrier.
Trenton “T-Bone” Garrett was the final Gator Golf
Ball Drop winner of $500. However, because he is
a Dickinson ISD student, the foundation asked “TBone”
if he would like to take his $500 now or to save
it for college and double his funds (an additional $500
scholarship). “T-Bone” decided to save it for college.
