WHILE COACHES FROM across the state congregate into Houston, the Astros continue their home stand when the Athletics come into town. As July winds down, keep in mind that the high school athletic season begins in less than two weeks.
SUNDAY: Rogelio Armenteros (0-0, 2.00 ERA) makes his first start in the majors when he takes the mound for the Astros in the weekend series finale against the Rangers beginning at 1:10pm. Texas counters with veteran righty Lance Lynn, who brings a record of 12-5 with an ERA of 3.87. Coaches across the state find themselves in Houston for the annual Texas High School Coaches Association State Conference, which will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The event will run through Wednesday and will have a host of college sports coaches as guest speakers.
MONDAY: The Astros give the ball to Gerrit Cole (10-5, 3.12 ERA) as they open a series against the visiting Athletics. Expect a contingent from La Grange, who will be down to see their hometown guy done good, Homer Bailey (8-6, 4.69 ERA) take the mound for Oakland. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have the game live at 7:10pm, shortly after the pregame show that begins at 6:30pm.
TUESDAY: It will be Wade Miley’s turn in the rotation as he brings his 8-4 record and 3.25 ERA to the mound for the Astros against the Athletics beginning at 7:10pm. Former Astros pitcher Mike Fiers (9-3, 3.60 ERA) goes for Oakland.
