Calling On Our Better Selves

There are currently over 40 dogs available for adoption; most are ages 1 to 5 but currently there are 8  pups ages 2 moths to 8 months. Of course, this does not include all the animals that re being fostered and not staying at the Animal Resource Center or all the stray and feral animals who roam the streets of the cities trying to survive on their own.

Unfortunately, many owners do not consider the importance of having their pets spayed or neutered to help control the number of stray animals in Galveston County, or consider spay and neutering to be a part of responsible pet ownership. And there is a cost to that kind of thinking. The cost is the suffering of animals who do not have a home and continue to procreate even though their circumstances are dire. Urban and suburban environments are not animal friendly and feeding strays only perpetuates the problem.

So, what can you do to help GCARC to reach a no kill capacity?

First: Do not purchase a pet from a puppy mill. Visit ARC and adopt. It is much less expensive, and you are much more likely to get a healthy pet…and save a life!

Second: If you are aware of an animal running loose in your neighborhood, call ARC. They will pick up the animal, treat them for any illness or health issues, neuter or spay them and actively seek a home for them.

Third: Spaying and neutering procedures cost money. Donate a neuter fee to help ensure all the animals helped thru GCARC are able to be neutered prior to adoption. Donations are always greatly appreciated!

Fourth: If you know of someone who has an animal that has not been neutered, or someone who feeds strays, please talk to them about working with the Animal Resource Center to eliminate the possibility of contributing to more homeless animals.
