This is a tail/tale of coincidence. Young Maverick was fresh out of school and ambitious, but he had no real plans for college, much less law school. But he was a talented young fellow and a hard worker and did not shy away from the concept of working his way through school. So, when a job opportunity popped up working with a young man equally as ambitious, Maverick jumped at the chance. The two became inseparable and found their interests were almost parallel.
His new employer/friend had discovered a special program where he could take college courses while he finished high school, much like Maverick had done by following his own path to becoming a Service Dog for diabetics. Both paths required tenacity, a bright mind, a can-do attitude, and a willingness to step out and try something different. So, when the chance came to tackle A&M, Maverick didn’t hesitate to encourage his buddy to tag along.
Next thing you know, the two are headed to College Station on a whole new adventure, as Juniors in college fresh out of high school. Maverick was stoked! Year one went great and that summer, they even shared a part time job at a local newspaper plus classes kept them busy. Just like magic, the fall came, and Maverick was a Senior… and so was his buddy! Who would have thought that finding a job would lead to finding a best friend, a lifelong career, an unexpected education and the best day of Maverick’s life as he walked across the stage with Xander Davenport, his partner in crime, his best buddy and study buddy? Asked how it felt walking across that stage with Xander, Maverick became quite solemn, looked at his friend an with a lump in his throat said, “You complete me, dude…for real.”
