TEXAS CITY – The Texas City ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved salary increases for District employees. The board has been working closely with TCISD administration during the past few months to assess the staffing and compensation needs of the district. The District contracted with the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) to conduct a salary and stipend study for TCISD.  After careful analysis of the results from the study, Trustees approved the new compensation plan for 2021-22 this week.

All levels on the teacher/librarian scale were increased by $1,850. Trustees also approved a pay increase of 3% to the midpoint of each auxiliary, clerical-paraprofessional and administrator-professional pay grade. This doesn’t mean that each employee is receiving that exact percentage raise on their current salary as has been done in the past. In addition to the raise percentage, there are some equity adjustments based on the TASB study.

Besides the raises for everyone, the Board also approved a one-time $1,500 retention incentive that will be given to all employees who are employed in Texas City ISD in December 2021. “With the action taken by the board, all teachers will be making an additional $3,350 during the 2021-2022 school year,” said Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Marcus Higgs.

The total cost of this powerful decision is $2,399,664.  “This is a significant amount of money and represents the respect, appreciation and confidence that our administration and trustees have in our employees,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Melissa Duarte. “More importantly, this decision represents our commitment to providing a solid and dynamic education for the children of our community.”
