No Trouble

There’s an old cliche I remembered hearing when I was growing up from the old folks around me when I would be worried about something. They would tell me “don’t go borrowing trouble.” I haven’t heard that phrase in a long time, but it popped into my mind recently when I found myself stressing about some things. It was like I could hear my Aunt Ruby’s voice in my ear telling me to calm down and to stop borrowing trouble about the situation. Wise words that I needed to hear.

Yes, there is no doubt that I’ve been experiencing some stressful and serious difficulties, and they have been very overwhelming. But I’ve come to the conclusion that I can only do what I can do in the present, and that I have to stop borrowing trouble about tomorrow. We let the what if’s and the maybe’s sneak in and take over and worry us into a worse condition than we are already in! The fact is, what if tomorrow something good happens instead of something bad? Maybe there is something wonderful that is coming together that hasn’t had time to manifest yet.

So if you are like me, you might need to take the advice of some old folks and stop borrowing trouble and just rest faithfully in peace today. Let tomorrow take care of itself! Borrow a cup of sugar if you need to but don’t borrow trouble.
