
How big is this weekend? It’s so big it needs two schedules.
Wednesday: Texas City’s swimming and diving team will host a quad meet at Doyle Auditorium at 4:00pm, with Channelview, Danbury and Dickinson also participating.
The first two picks of the 2021 NBA Draft meet for the first time when the Rockets and second overall selection Jalen Green host top pick Cade Cunningham and the Pistons at 6:30pm. ESPN will have coverage of the game.
Thursday: It’s tourney time for high school girls’ basketball teams, with the annual Peggy Whitley Classic being held throughout the Clear Creek ISD area. Each of the five CCISD schools will be represented along with Galveston Ball. Meanwhile, Dickinson will be at the Baytown Gander Classic, Hitchcock is at the Rice Consolidated Tournament, La Marque participates at the C.E. King Tournament, and Santa Fe is among the schools at the Columbia Tournament.
Hitchcock gets the honor of being the area’s first high school boys’ basketball team to open its 2021-22 regular season when the Bulldogs host Danbury at 6:00pm.
Friday: The first high school basketball regular season games will be played, as Kincaid at Clear Falls starts at 6:15pm, followed by Clear Creek at Deer Park, Clear Springs at Pearland, Santa Fe at Sam Rayburn and Texas City at Fort Bend Ridge Point at 7:00pm. Friendswood at Barbers Hill is at 7:30pm, with Clear Brook meeting Crosby (Campbell Center in Aldine) at 8:00pm.
In girls’ basketball, Friendswood at Crosby and Sweeny at Texas City each start at 5:30pm.
The Rockets host the Trail Blazers at 7:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts its coverage at 6:30pm that will lead into the 7:00pm tip.
Saturday: There’s more boys’ high school hoops to be had, with Galveston Ball at Dickinson starting at 1:00pm, while Dayton visits La Marque at 1:30pm.
The high school wrestling slate will have Clear Falls hosting its annual Knights Invitational that will also include Clear Springs. Clear Brook hosts a quad meet at 9:00am that includes Brazoswood, Lamar Consolidated and Houston Northside.
A busy Saturday of college football will have Houston at Temple (ESPN+) at 11:00am, with Eastern Kentucky at Sam Houston State (ESPN+) at 12:00pm. Western Kentucky at Rice (ESPN+) kicks off at 1:00pm, followed by McNeese State at Houston Baptist (ESPN+), Prairie View at Alcorn State and Alabama A&M at Texas Southern (ESPN+) at 2:00pm. Stephen F. Austin at Central Arkansas (ESPN+) and Jacksonville State at Lamar (ESPN+) are at 4:00pm. The evening schedule will be highlighted by #14 Texas A&M at #16 Ole Miss (ESPN) at 6:00pm and Kansas at Texas (ESPNU) at 6:30pm.
