High school football season is over locally, but the good news is that boys’ basketball coaches across the area will get a jolt of depth and talent to each of their teams. Thanksgiving weekend is still a great time for local sports fans, with a host of hoops and college football to be had.

Wednesday: The high school boys’ basketball schedule will have Friendswood at Sam Rayburn at 1:00pm, followed by Hitchcock at Texas City at 2:00pm. Dickinson will be a part of the Hoopsgiving Classic that will be held at Houston Christian High School. The Gators will take on the host school as the finale of a 10-game schedule that also includes state-ranked Clear Brook against Elkins at 11:30am.

Hitchcock’s girls’ basketball team will conclude its annual Holiday Classic tournament.

The Rockets, who entered the week mired in a 14-game losing streak, will seek to snap the skid when they host the Hornets beginning at 7:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will begin coverage at 6:30pm with the pregame show.

Thursday: Thanksgiving Day means the Cowboys are playing, of course. The Raiders will visit AT&T Stadium for the NFL’s classic tradition, with KHOU-11 covering the game at 3:30pm.

Friday: Kansas State visits a Texas team seeking to avoid a seventh straight loss. KRIV-26 gets the college football weekend started at 11:00am.

Clear Springs hits the road to participate in The Woodlands Varsity Tournament through Saturday.

Saturday: The one high school girls’ basketball game on the schedule will see Hitchcock visit La Marque at 12:00pm.

Meanwhile, the boys’ high school hoops schedule will have Cy Creek at state-ranked Clear Brook at 1:00pm, with Clear Creek at North Shore and Brazoswood at Galveston Ball at 2:00pm. Dickinson collides with Fort Bend Hightower at 6:30pm at Episcopal High School, which plays host to the annual Texas Jam.

There’s still regular season college football available, starting with #24 Houston at Connecticut (CBSSN) at 11:00am, followed by Louisiana Tech at Rice (ESPN+) at 12:30pm. Mississippi Valley State at Prairie View (ESPN+) and Stephen F. Austin at Incarnate Word (ESPN+) both kick off at 2:00pm, while #16 Texas A&M at LSU (ESPN) starts at 6:00pm.
