Mary Vinnedge’s pastels painting “Gull Friend,” about 5 by 7 inches, will be exhibited as part of the small-art Holiday Gift Sale at Galveston Art League, 2117A Postoffice St. in Galveston. The gallery is open 12:00pm-6:00pm Fridays-Sundays. Items also are offered for sale at www.GalvestonArtLeague.com.

Galveston Art League has just the thing if you need a gift for that person who already has pretty much everything or if you simply have a small empty space to perk up. The Art League is again holding a small-art Holiday Gift Sale in its downtown Galveston gallery, 2117A Postoffice St. Gallery hours are 12:00pm-6:00pm Fridays through Sundays, Dec. 3-26.

None of the items in the special sale is bigger than 14 inches at its longest measurement (including frame, if applicable), and everything costs $75 or less. The sale presents an opportunity for shoppers to invest in an original artwork at a modest price. As pieces sell, artists can replenish the small-art sale selection, so shoppers should check back for new offerings on the wall.

The sale is part of the Galveston Art League’s monthly membership show for December. Dozens of larger works also are exhibited and offered for sale in the nonprofit organization’s roomy gallery.

The league has nine member-only member shows each year, with each lasting roughly a month. During the remaining three months of each year, the league hosts exhibits of artworks that were accepted into its annual juried competitions. All works in these shows are exhibited on www.GalvestonArtLeague.com with easy credit-card checkout for shoppers.

Founded in 1914, the Galveston Art League displays area artists’ wide-ranging pieces – from sculpture, mixed media works and jewelry to paintings and photography – as part of its mission to encourage appreciation of visual arts and art education in the greater Galveston County region. The league is run exclusively by volunteers and always has been.

Gallery sales are an important revenue source for the Art League. Other funding is derived from tax-deductible membership fees (non-artists are welcome!), donations, tuition paid by workshop participants, and a yearly fundraiser gala; the next gala is scheduled for May 2022 in Galveston.
