Three Words for 2022: God’s Got This
Pandemics, racial strife, political division, Alabama vs. Cincinnati. My goodness, there is so much out there that brings stress, anger and frustration in our world. Chances are good that some of us woke up today dreading another jolt of negative news in what has been a year mostly filled with discouraging moments that only try our soul.
If there was ever a series of verses that perfectly describe my 2021, it is Ecclesiastes 3:2-4, which tells us there is A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest. A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to build up. A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance.
As 2022 approaches, we need to find laughter and joy. We have shed many tears over the loss of our loved ones, our jobs, our sense of normalcy. I learned of the loss of a once-dear friend on Wednesday night and while the physical jolt hit my soul, I couldn’t bring myself to cry because it feels like I have done enough in 2021.
Today, in this moment, let us be mindful of the words of Psalm 126:2-3: Then our mouths were filled with laughter and our tongues with joyful songs. Then the nations said, “The LORD has done spectacular things for them.” The LORD has done spectacular things for us. We are overjoyed.
The rest of the day will bring its challenges. As much as we would love to change the world and run back to something resembling what life was like in the long-past days that were January and February of 2020, the challenges that face us will remind us of the current state of the world.
But right now….RIGHT NOW…let’s bask in humor. Let our smiles be our guide. Let’s create a pandemic of laughter, joy and happiness that we can spread from this building to our homes and carry throughout this area. Let’s pass it around and share the words of Jeremiah 33:11 the sounds of joy and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom, and the voices of those who bring thank offerings to the house of the LORD, saying, “Give thanks to the LORD Almighty, for the LORD is good; his love endures forever.”
For I will restore the fortunes of the land as they were before,’ says the LORD.
We cannot change 2021. It will be over this week, and the events that changed our lives are but memories we can either choose to replay infinitely or turn them into hope as the calendar turns forward.
God’s got this. Let these words be our foundation for 2022.
