Christmas is over, and the last week of 2021 begins with a host of tournament action involving most of the area’s high school basketball teams. Both the Texans and Cowboys are in games with playoff implications, although the Texans are in a position to be a party poofer as its long and brutal season reaches closer to the finish line.

Sunday: The Texans can play the role of playoff spoiler when they host a Chargers team in the thick of the AFC postseason chase. Kickoff is at 12:00pm and will be aired on KHOU11.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys look to bolster its chances of gaining a first-round bye in the NFC playoffs at the expense of an injury-riddled Washington Football Team at AT&T Stadium. It’s primetime for this matchup of longtime NFC East blood rivals, as KPRC2 has this Sunday night doozy at 7:20pm.

Monday: Area high school hoops teams are all over the state participating in tournaments.

The boys’ schedule has state-ranked Clear Brook at the Allen Tournament, while Clear Springs is at the Round Rock Tournament. State-ranked Hitchcock finds itself at the Franklin Tournament, with state-ranked La Marque at the Bellaire Tournament.

For the girls, state-ranked Clear Brook, Clear Creek, Clear Falls, Galveston Ball, and Texas City are each playing in the Pasadena Memorial Tournament, while Clear Springs is at the Midway Waco Christmas Classic. Dickinson is at the Aggieland Invitational, Hitchcock takes part at the East Chambers Christmas Classic, while La Marque is at the Dallas Tournament.

The Rockets take on the Hornets with a 6:00pm tip. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will begin coverage with the pregame show at 5:30pm.

Tuesday: More boys’ high school basketball tournaments are in play, as Clear Creek, Clear Falls and Galveston Ball are at the Eric Medina Classic in Pasadena, while state-ranked Dickinson is at the Conroe Classic. Santa Fe is at the New Caney ISD Tournament, while Texas City is at the Brazosport Tournament.

Girls’ soccer scrimmages are on the slate, as Friendswood takes on host Clear Lake at 9:00am before facing Pearland at 10:30am. Santa Fe visits Dickinson for a 12:00pm tune-up.

The Rockets host the Lakers at 7:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage at 6:30pm with the pregame show.
