Sting Day Keeps Away the Rain

Mother Nature is a fan of Texas City athletics, showing her favor on Saturday by not bringing rain on Sting Day, TCISD’s annual celebration of Stingarees athletics going into the start of the 2022-23 school year.

The event was highlighted by a pep rally that introduced new Stings head football coach Shone Evans and a team that finished with 10 wins in 2021. Big things are expected for the program this season with a wealth of talent coming back to compete for a deep playoff run in Class 5A, Division II.

Saturday, though, wasn’t about football. It was about a city coming together to bring its love and support to the young men and women who will wear the orange and black. Coaches got to be dunked into water, the smell of barbeque, burgers and other meats engulfed 6th Street, and after not having it the past two seasons because of You Know What, it was a joy to simply relax and220 enjoy the atmosphere.

As part of The Post Newspaper’s Back to School edition, we support Texas City and the rest of the districts (Clear Creek, Dickinson, Friendswood, Galveston, Hitchcock, Santa Fe) blessed success on and off the field this upcoming year.
