The Salvation Army of Galveston County is making preparations for the incoming arctic weather this week and watching the effect of it on the close of the 2022 Red Kettle Campaign which ends on Christmas Eve. “No one in Galveston County wants to experience another Arctic blast, but we are preparing to welcome more people into our shelter who may be surprised as conditions deteriorate later this week,” says Major Nathanael Doria of The Salvation Army. “We have been running near capacity for several weeks already and expect those numbers to increase.”
The timing is unfortunate as The Salvation Army moves into the final week of its annual Red Kettle campaign which is vitally important to providing services to the community through the season and into the beginning of 2023. The Moody Foundation has issued a $100,000 match challenge for the period of December 16-24, committing to match everything raised in the kettles or in the virtual kettles. Over the weekend, the kettles brought in approximately $8,000, putting a tremendous goal before the community to reach $100,000 by Saturday night. “We know people will be accelerating their shopping plans this week ahead of the weather and that many of our bell ringers will not be able to be present during some of this time. We are asking the community to please remember the online Virtual Kettle option to help us reach this matching challenge. There is a kettle set up for the Moody Match (https://give.salvationarmytexas.org/team/469898), but donations given in any kettle on our website counts, so for those teams who are already raising funds can know that every dollar is being doubled through Christmas Eve.” All the Virtual kettles and more information about the work of The Salvation Army in Galveston County can be found on our website at https://southernusa.salvationarmy.org/galveston.”
Other ways to participate in the Matching Challenge is to drop off a check clearly marked for the $100,000 Moody Match Challenge at 601 51st. Street in Galveston or 4801 Emmett F. Lowry in Texas City or call Holly McDonald at 409-939-9013 or Holly.McDonald@uss.SalvationArmy.org. Your contribution to the Red Kettle campaign of The Salvation Army stays in your local community to help the less fortunate where you live.
