TEXAS CITY, TX – The community can get help with housing assistance, food assistance,
transportation, veterans’ services, ID assistance, addiction & recovery services, and
emergency/utility assistance this Thursday at Texas City’s upcoming Navigation Day event.
Other free services at the event also include salon & barber services, mental health screenings and
showers, among others.
Navigation Day is on Thursday, Nov .6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Nessler Center (2010 5th Avenue
N.) in Texas City. Hosted by the Mayor’s Task Force on Homelessness and the City of Texas City,
this free event brings together agencies and services from throughout the region to help homeless
individuals, as well as to assist, prevent, and overcome homelessness.
“Although it may not cure the entire dilemma of the unsheltered, Navigation Day is a day when
many people can participate to help impact the problem,” Texas City Mayor Dedrick Johnson said.
“It’s a true reflection of the community of Texas City coming together.”
This year’s event will be the third annual Navigation Day in Texas City. Over the past two years, the
event has helped people throughout the community with things like resolving outstanding
warrants, finding employment assistance, getting prescription medications or glasses, all while
they enjoyed simple pleasures, like taking a warm shower, getting a haircut and enjoying a hot
meal.
One guest at last year’s event summarized the impact of the event with just one short sentence:
“For the first time in a long time, I feel like I have hope again.”
