KICKS BEGIN COUNTING AS DISTRICT 23-5A SOCCER START REGULAR SEASON

LOCAL pro football fans will have added reason to watch Sunday’s playoff action,
which kicks off a busy week that will also see the start of regular season play for the
boys and girls soccer teams of District 23-5A.
TODAY, SUNDAY: The Jaguars-Steelers AFC Divisional Round game has local
flavor as La Marque’s Brian Allen suits up for his first postseason game. The rookie
defensive back has recorded two assists as a special teams player for Pittsburgh
and will be seeking to help the Steelers advance one step closer to a possible seventh
Super Bowl title. The game will air on KHOU-11 beginning at noon.
TOMORROW, MONDAY: Houston visits Los Angeles to face the Clippers for a Martin
Luther King Jr. Day game that starts at 9:30pm. The game marks the first time
Rockets guard Chris Paul returns to Staples Center since he was traded to Houston
by Los Angeles last summer. The Clippers won the first meeting between the teams
this season, pulling away from the Rockets in a 128-118 victory at Toyota Center on
December 22. TNT and AT&T Southwest will air the game, with AT&T Southwest
starting its coverage at 9:00pm.
TUESDAY: Basketball and soccer dominate the schedule, as boys hoops begin
with Alvin at Clear Brook, Clear Creek at Clear Lake, Dickinson at Clear Falls, stateranked
La Marque at Houston Episcopal, Santa Fe at Fort Bend Elkins and Texas
City at Galveston Ball. Each game starts at 7:00pm. Clear Springs at Friendswood
and state-ranked Hitchcock at East Bernard both start at 7:30pm.
The girls schedule begins at 6:15pm when state-ranked Hitchcock visits East Bernard.
Clear Brook at Alvin, Clear Falls at Dickinson, Clear Lake at Clear Creek, Fort
Bend Elkins at Santa Fe and Friendswood at Clear Springs are each 7:00pm starts,
while Galveston Ball at Texas City tips off at 7:30pm.
District 23-5A boys soccer regular season [play begins with Fort Bend Elkins at
Santa Fe and Galveston Ball at Texas City. Each match starts at 7:00pm. Clear
Brook is in non-district action with a road match at Goose Creek Memorial with the
pitch coming to life at 7:00pm.
In girls action, Clear Brook is at Brazoswood at 6:00pm. Texas City is at Galveston
Ball and Santa Fe at Fort Bend Elkins kick off the 23-5A regular season with each
starting at 7:00pm. Sterling visits Clear Creek in non-district play at 7:00pm
