Today, Wednesday: With a week to go before Opening Day, the World Champion
Astros play in one of their final Spring Training games in Florida as they visit the
Nationals beginning at 12:05pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have the game beginning
at noon.
TOMORROW, THURSDAY: In what will be a preview of the district tournament, the
boys and girls teams of 23-5A converge on Battleground Golf Course for an event
that will help set the stage for the event that will see the top finishers advance to the
regionals.
Santa Fe’s boys and girls track team will be among the teams participating in the West
Columbia Relays, the first of three big track and field events to round out the week
involving area high school track and field teams.
The Rockets return from their road trip to face the Pistons at Toyota Center beginning
at 7:00pm. In the only other meeting between the teams this season, Detroit held off
Houston 108-101 on January 6. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will begin its coverage
with the pregame show at 6:30pm.
FRIDAY: The final night of regular season play in boys soccer starts at 7:10pm
with Fort Bend Elkins at Texas City, followed by Dickinson at Clear Brook, Alvin at
Friendswood, Clear Springs at Clear Lake and Fort Bend Marshall at Santa Fe, with
each beginning at 7:30pm.
In girls soccer, Texas City at Fort Bend Elkins starts at 7:10pm. Friendswood at Alvin,
Clear Lake at Clear Springs, Clear Brook at Dickinson and Santa Fe at Fort Bend
Marshall each start at 7:30pm.
Three doubleheaders highlight the baseball schedule as Fort Bend Elkins at
Galveston Ball play at 4:00pm and 6:30pm. Texas City at Fort Bend Marshall begin
at 4:30pm with the second game starting at 7:00pm while Manvel at Santa Fe start at
5:30pm followed by an 8:00pm nightcap. The rest of the schedule will have Brazos at
La Marque beginning at 6:00pm with Clear Creek at Clear Brook, Dickinson at Clear
Lake, Alvin at Clear Springs, Hitchcock at Danbury and Clear Falls at Friendswood
each starting at 7:00pm.
Softball action begins at 5:00pm with Brazos at La Marque while Dickinson at Clear
Falls, Clear Creek at Clear Lake, Hitchcock at Danbury, Clear Brook at Friendswood,
Fort Bend Elkins at Galveston Ball, Fort Bend Marshall at Santa Fe and Manvel at
Texas City will each start at 6:30pm.
Most of the area’s track and field teams will be at Clear Springs for the Chargers
Relays. Not only will the best of District 24-6A get a chance to compete with each
other, the likes of Texas City and La Marque will have a chance to measure up with a
host of Class 6A teams.
SATURDAY: The state powerlifiting championships will be held in Abilene as six area
performers will bid for a state title. Hitchcock’s Xavian Hampton will seek to defend
his crown in the 242lb division while Dickinson’s Pablo Cavazos (114lb), Daniel Parr
and Joe Rodriguez (242lb), La Marque’s Russell Pickney (148lb) and Santa Fe’s Tyler
Ray (242lb) are also bound for the state meet.
Texas City’s girls track team will head to Prairie View A&M University where they will
compete with a select group of high school squads at the Panther Relays.
The Rockets host the Pelicans beginning at 7:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will
begin with its pregame show at 6:30pm.
