Here at The Post we do our best to keep you informed and up to date on new occurrences in and around our readership area. This could be letting you know about new organizations and locations that have opened, telling you about new employees at different institutions or making you privy to changes within certain organizations. The last of these is the focus for this particular article.
A few days ago, The Post learned that the Bay Area Habitat For Humanity recently launched its new website– http://www.bahfh.org/. Unfortunately, I am not aware if the BAHFH had a previous website and, as a result, I cannot speak to how this old website appeared (if it existed). However, I can speak to the new website. This website, in my opinion, is quite well organized. The home page is filled with statistics and information regarding housing, the community and the importance of providing a safe and clean home for everyone. Furthermore, the home page also includes pieces of information pertinent to the BAHFH itself, a feature story from a family helped by BAHFH and contact information and links to the BAHFH social medias. Along with this, at the top of the page, there is a header that takes you to different sections of the BAHFH. These sections include a link to donate and information on how to get involved. The website has an easy to manage layout, with everything you need to find easily accessible. You don’t have to go searching around for the information you need, because it is right there.
So what exactly is the BAHFH? According to its website, it is “the only non-profit home builder in the Galveston, Southeast Harris and Northern Brazoria County area partnering with families to build quality, safe, affordable and energy efficient homes with zero percent interest mortgages.” This organization is important because, as I learnt from the website, “in the U.S. alone, 95 million people have housing problems” and “globally, about 1.6 billion have substandard housing.”
The BAHFH is a an asset to the community due to the importance of everyone having access to safe housing. According to the website, safe housing doesn’t only provide a shelter to individuals and families, but also provides them with stability and safety. The BAHFH helps individuals become self-sufficient, helps to solve the community’s housing crisis and helps start the process of leading families away from the poverty level. According to the website “39.9 percent of families (in our area) are cost burdened and living below 50 percent of the area median family income.”
So how can you get involved? Thanks to the website, this information is easy to find. There are different events you can participate in, you can shop at the ReStore, you can volunteer or you can make a donation. Whichever route you chose, you can be rest assured that your time and generosity will be going towards helping a person or family earning safe and high quality housing.
