OPINION – KERRY PETTIJOHN

Every single day the 2018 midterm draws closer, and
there is one county wide candidate we should all consider
voting for; Kerry Pettijohn for Galveston County
Court at Law #2. Not only is Pettijohn the most passionate
and ethical lawyer you will ever meet, but she
has an impressive background in both education and
counseling. She is also an alumni of the highly respected
Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas
Southern University. If that wasn’t impressive enough
her compassionate and professional legal style most
definitely is. As a lawyer she has committed herself
to doing at least one pro bono case a month. This
has even earned her recognition from the Houston
Volunteer Lawyers for working the most pro bono
cases. In addition to that, Pettijohn always offers discounted
services to our men and women in uniform.
She is involved in the community, as well as heavily
engaged in reaching the people of Galveston County
to let them know what she stands for.
We always talk about, and get our hopes up for that
perfect candidate that is in it for the right reasons,
yet it is often hard to find. The voters deserve genuine
leadership, and this is the opportunity to gain
that. We can talk partisan all day, but a judgeship is a
position that should always cross those boundaries.
When our citizens step into the courtroom, they must
have fairness in justice. With true leadership, bias
goes out the window. Ethical leadership is vital to everyone
in the courtroom; the plaintiff, the defendant,
the jury, in addition to the lawyers and police officers
that may be involved.
Robert Kennedy said it best, “The glory of justice
and the majesty of law are created not just by the
Constitution – nor by the courts – nor by the officers
of the law – nor by the lawyers – but by men and
women who constitute our society – who are the protectors
of the law as they are themselves protected
by the law.” The United States is a government for
the people. This country belongs to us, the citizens,
as does the courtroom. Let us put the most qualified
person possible in that position, so that when our citizens
find themselves standing before a judge there is
nothing but fairness, ethical leadership and equity. It
is about each individual case, and not climbing some
ladder for just any lawyer that feels they are owed
that seat.
The election polls open on October 22, 2018 for
early voting and close on November 2, 2018, with
Election Day falling on the 6th of November. For those
who are not registered to vote in Galveston County,
the last day to do so is October 9, 2018. You are able
to cast your ballot at any polling location within the
county, and can find the appropriate information at
www.GalvestonVotes.org. Once again I encourage
everyone to do their civic duty of voting, but more
importantly know who is on the ballot and have a
plan come election time. Vote Pettijohn for Galveston
County Court at Law #2!!!
