Texas City ISD is implementing new programs for
social and emotional based learning in kindergarten
through 12th grade. Social and emotional learning is
a process which helps children cultivate essential life
skills including awareness of one’s own emotions,
fostering respect and care for others, establishing
strong relationships, making ethical and responsible
decisions, and handling adversity constructively.
Ripple Effects offers personalized social, emotional
learning for our elementary students through
4th grade. The computer program has over 150 tutorial
topics centered around five keys which are selfawareness,
social awareness, self-management,
relationship skills and responsible decision making.
The program addresses the needs for character education
and safety training through interactive, ageappropriate
lessons. Students will have access to the
lessons while in the computer lab and classroom. Administrators
will
also have the
flexibility to assign
specific lessons
for students
exhibiting behavioral
needs as an
intervention.
A year-long curriculum for grades
5-12 will be used to help students hone
key life skills. This program can also is
also an app so students can use it on
their personal devices. Lessons such
as self-awareness, self-management,
social awareness, relationship skills,
responsible decision-making, emotional
health, safety and more. Students
will be able to complete assignments
during scheduled computer lab
time or on their phones. Parents of
