In order to continue to manage and enhance the added safety measures in Texas City ISD, a new position was created in the security and school safety department. Craig Straw was hired this week as the Director of Security and School Safety.
“We are fortunate that Mr. Straw is able to join our team,” said Superintendent Dr. Rodney Cavness. “His strong background in logistics and operations and experience in school safety and security will enrich the programs we have been implementing in Texas City ISD.”
Straw previously served in a similar role in Clear Creek ISD. While there, he managed strategic, operational and tactical emergency operations plans, standard response protocols and school safety audits. He also oversaw led and trained staff in daily operations of mitigation, prevention, preparedness, response and recovery in response to natural and man-made disasters. Straw co-authored the district’s first ever off-site unified reunification exercise that led to an executable response and recovery plan.
Besides his school safety experience, Straw served 27 years in the United States Air Force where he was a chief master sergeant and combat veteran. He is highly skilled and trained in security, contingency and global emergency management response. Straw holds a B.S. in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautics University.
“Mr. Straw is going to work great with our executive director Mike Matranga. He will be a true asset to our students and staff, schools and community,” said Dr. Cavness.
