Texas City Police Department held a “Pinning Ceremony” today. The families of five young individuals gathered to watch the swearing in of their sons, daughter, brothers and sister. This is an unusually large class of cadets and Chief Joe Stanton welcomed them saying ” We are a family here in Texas City and we work hard. These officers are ready, or they would not be standing here. They will receive ongoing training and support and at any point, any of you have a concern or a question, my door is always open.” As each department head spoke, they offered their congratulations and a little advice. Assistant Chief Jess Colwell shared some salient advice he received when he was 13. “Show up on time, do what you’re told and stay out of trouble. Do that and 30 years from now you just might be standing where I am now.”
