Census takers needed throughout Galveston County

GALVESTON COUNTY HAS 3,000 JOBS AVAILABLE. All that’s required is time and a sense of supporting the area’s needs to grow financially.

Demand is high for census takers as the process to correctly identify the number of citizens in Galveston County. The opportunity is there for anyone and the benefits are well above average when it comes to compensation ($20 an hour, up to 40 hours per week).

“So much depends on an accurate census count,” said Nathaniel Lyons, who is one of the census supervisors in Galveston County. “Improving roads, building a stronger police force and having the ability to provide social services is key when making sure each county knows how many citizens it has. This is a once-in-a-decade thing, so if a census is off, then it means that counties and states could find themselves underfunded. That’s something that cannot be changed until the next census (in 2030).”

All this is required to apply is the following:

*At least 18 years of age.

*A valid social security number.

*A valid email address.

*Registered with the Selective Service System, or having a qualified exemption, if you are male and were born after Dec. 31, 1959.

Those offered a position as a census taker will also have to pass a criminal background check

Flexibility is a must, and most positions will also require access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license. However, much of the work can be done either at home or on the fly (most census takers are supplied with iPads).

Three days of paid training is also supplied for census takers, who will then be able to work according to their schedules. “Even full-time workers can consider taking this on,” said Lyons. “It all depends on if you have the time and are committed to doing it.”

Added Lyons, “yes, you do get paid on time. You won’t have to worry about that.”

The goal is for the official census count to be on the desk of President Donald J. Trump in order for him to sign it before December 31, 2020.
