Local Prep Golfers Swing For State Title Bids

The area’s best Class 6A boys’ golfers compete for the chance to participate in next month’s state finals. The weekend also means the final high school softball games of the regular season as the road to the state championship in that sport begins in earnest next week with the bi-district round of the playoffs.

Wednesday: The 6A, Region III boys’ golf tournament will be held at Eagle Point Golf Club in Mount Belvieu. The tourney, which concludes on Thursday, will send its top finishers to the state finals, which will be held at Legacy Hills Golf Course in Georgetown on May 9-10.

The Astros conclude their first home series of the season with a 5:40pm start against the Angels. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will begin coverage at 5:00pm with the pregame show.

Thursday: Final round of the boys’ 6A, Region III finals.

Friday: The final regular season high school softball games begin at 5:00pm with Hitchcock at Boling, followed by Sweeny at La Marque at 5:30, and Goose Creek Memorial at Texas City at 5:45pm. Clear Brook at Clear Springs, Clear Falls at Brazoswood, and La Porte at Santa Fe each start at 6:30pm, while Clear Lake at Dickinson start at 6:45pm.

Meanwhile, the high school baseball slate has Clear Brook at Dickinson, Clear Creek at Clear Lake, Bay Area Christian at Clear Falls, Clear Springs at Brazoswood, La Marque at Needville, Santa Fe at La Porte and Texas City at Goose Creek Memorial at 6:00pm.

In what could be an early preview of a massive October collision, the Astros host Vladmir Guerrero, Jr. and the loaded Blue Jays lineup. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage at 6:30pm with the pregame show, followed by the game at 7:10pm.
Saturday: The Astros host the Blue Jays in the middle game of the weekend series beginning at 3:10pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage with the pregame show at 2:30pm.
