Nine area high school football teams begin the road to Arlington as the bi-district round of the playoffs begins. Here’s who, where and when they play:

Class 6A, Division I

Atascocita at Dickinson, Friday, 7:00 PM

Class 6A, Division II

Clear Falls at Summer Creek, Friday, 7:00 PM

Kingwood at Clear Springs, Friday, 7:00 PM, Challenger-Columbia Stadium

Class 5A, Division I

Waltrip at Ball, Friday, 7:00 PM

Friendswood at A&M Consolidated, Friday, 7:00 PM

Class 5A, Division II

Texas City at Brenham, Friday, 7:00 PM

Class 4A, Division II

La Marque vs. Hampshire-Fannett, Thursday, 7:00 PM, Alvin Memorial Stadium

Class 3A, Division I

Hitchcock vs. Little River, Friday, 7:00 PM, Waller ISD Stadium

Wednesday: The Rockets host the Clippers at 7:00 PM. Space City Home Network begins the coverage at 6:30 pm with the pregame show.

Thursday: Clear Brook’s girls’ basketball team heads to Katy to participate in the KISD Tournament.

Friday: In boys’ basketball, Foster at Clear Springs starts at 6:30 PM, followed by Pasadena at Clear Brook, Iowa Colony at Clear Falls, state-ranked Beaumont United at state-ranked Dickinson, state-ranked Friendswood at Pearland, and Buna at state-ranked La Marque starts at 7:00 PM.

Meanwhile, the girls’ hoops slate starts at 4:00 PM with Brazoswood at Texas City, followed at 6:00 PM by La Porte at Clear Springs and Lufkin at La Marque. Huntsville at Ball and Silsbee at state-ranked Friendswood each begin at 6:30 PM

The Rockets host the Clippers at 7:00 PM. Space City Home Network begins the coverage at 6:30 PM with the pregame show.

Saturday: One girls’ basketball game has state-ranked Hitchcock at Sweeny beginning at 10:00 AM.

College football starts at 11:00 AM with #5 Texas at Arkansas (KTRK13), followed by Houston Christian at East Texas State (ESPN+) at 1:00 PM. Bethune-Cookman at Texas Southern, Sam Houston State at Kenesaw State (ESPN+), and Alcorn State at Prairie View A&M (ESPN+) start at 2:00 PM, while Incarnate Word at Lamar (ESPN+) begins at 3:00 PM. New Mexico at #14 Texas A&M (SEC Network) begins at 6:45 PM.

Brandon C. Williams, The Post Newspaper's editor, has been a presence in Galveston County for much of his 33 years in media. He began his career as a sportswriter for The La Marque Times in 1990 and became the paper's first-ever sports editor in 1991. After receiving a host of accolades from the Texas Press Association for his work, Brandon then attended Southwest Texas State, where he served as the sports editor of the school's paper, The University Star along with working with the SWT athletic department. Among his travels in journalism, Brandon served as Sports Editor of both The Texas City Sun and Galveston County Daily News. He was a copy editor/general assignments writer for the Houston Chronicle and covered the Houston Texans' first playoff season as a writer for CBSSports.com. He also worked at Fox Sports Net in satellite operations. Williams began writing with The Post Newspaper in August 2009 and became a contributor to the paper's sports section. He became more of a full-time presence in 2018 and moved to Associate Editor before being named Editor in October 2019. Born in Galveston, raised in Texas City and a graduate of La Marque High School, Brandon's heart has always belonged to Galveston County. Beyond his writing, Williams has also played the role of Santa Claus for the City of La Marque's annual Christmas Parade of Lights since 2017.
