THREE AREA teams remain among the state’s top boys and girls basketball teams
in this week’s Texas Association of Basketball Coaches rankings.
Dickinson is ranked 22nd in the Class 6A boys poll as they prepare to start defense
of their District 24-6A championship next week. The Gators are 12-5 overall and start
district play this Tuesday when they visit Friendswood. Dickinson is one of two teams
in 24-6A that is ranked this week as Clear Lake (12-3 overall) is sitting in the 24th
spot of the poll.
In Class 3A, La Marque is ranked 11th in this week’s poll after the Cougars captured
the Orangefield Tournament title with a 50-44 win over Liberty on Saturday. First-year
coach Kevin Wilcox has La Marque going into this Saturday’s showdown against 4A
powerhouse Silsbee with a 7-5 record and will start District 24-3A play at Hitchcock
on Tuesday.
Hitchcock’s girls remain in the Class 3A top 25, yet fell to 17th in this week’s poll.
The Bulldogs, 9-5 overall, continue 24-3A play this Friday when they visit Rice
