ROCKETS, TEXANS SEEK JOY OF CHRISTMAS VICTORY

TODAY, SUNDAY: University of Houston concludes its season when the Cougars
meet Fresno State in the Hawai’i Bowl beginning at 7:30pm on ESPN. The game will
give local UH fans a chance to see running back Kaliq Kokuma (Clear Creek), defensive
back D.J. Small (Dickinson), linebacker Cameron Doubenmier (Clear Springs),
linebacker Jordan Milburn (Galveston Ball) and defensive tackle Aymiel Fleming (La
Marque) suit up for the Cougars.
TOMORROW, MONDAY: Both the Rockets and Texans will be in the Christmas primetime
spotlight. The Rockets will be at the Thunder for a 7:00pm start that will be
the conclusion of an NBA triple-header on ABC-13. It is the first meeting between the
teams this season, giving Houston its initial opportunity to see reigning MVP Russell
Westbrook and new Oklahoma City teammates Carmelo Anthony and Paul George,
both of whom were acquired during the offseason.
The Texans welcome AFC South champion Steelers at 3:30pm in a game that will
be televised on KPRC-2. Houston, 4-10 on the season, will continue to turn to T.J.
Yates as the starting quarterback against a Pittsburgh team that will be without All-
Pro receiver Antonio Brown, who sustained a lower body injury in last week’s loss to
the Patriots. It will also be a homecoming for Steelers rookie cornerback Brian Allen,
the La Marque native who was drafted by Pittsburgh in the fifth round of the draft.
TUESDAY: There are no sporting events of either the high school or professional
side of things on this day after Christmas, all the more reason to hit the malls for post-
Christmas sales along with trading in the sweater that didn’t quite fit you.
