SCHOOLS return from their holiday vacations on Monday, bringing the high school
sports scene back to their hectic Tuesday night schedules. Meanwhile, the Rockets
continue a road swing they must continue without their best player.
TODAY, SUNDAY: The first Sunday of the new year offers nothing on the local sports
calendar, making it a good day to go outside and enjoy the sunshine of what will be
a warmer day than the area has seen in this year. There are the two NFL wild card
games on tap as the Jaguars visit the Bills at 12:05pm (KHOU-11) and Fox-26 will
have Panthers at Saints beginning at 3:40pm.
TOMORROW, MONDAY: The Rockets hit the Windy City for a 7:30pm run with the
Bulls that will be aired on AT&T Southwest beginning with the pregame show at
7:00pm. It is the second game of a five-game stretch that will see Houston on the
road four times as the Rockets continue to cope without injured star James Harden,
who is out indefinitely with a hamstring strain. Chicago entered the weekend with a
paltry 13-25 record as the Bulls are in the opening stages of a franchise overhaul.
TUESDAY: A night of high school basketball and soccer will keep the area busy as
schools return to their normal routines.
In District 24-6A boys hoops, Clear Springs is at Clear Falls and Alvin visits stateranked
Dickinson with each starting at 7:00pm. Clear Creek is at Friendswood starting
at 7:30pm. The District 23-5A boys slate will have Fort Bend Elkins at Galveston
Ball, Manvel at Santa Fe and Fort Bend Marshall at Texas City. Each tips off at
7:00pm. In District 24-3A, state-ranked Hitchcock hosts Danbury while state-ranked
La Marque welcomes East Bernard with each starting at 7:30pm.
Three girls basketball games are on tap in District 24-6A as Clear Brook is at Clear
Lake, Clear Falls at Clear Springs and Dickinson at Alvin. Each starts at 7:00pm.
In District 23-5A, Galveston Ball at Fort Bend Elkins, Santa Fe at Manvel start at
7:00pm and Texas City at Fort Bend Marshall starts at 7:30pm. District 24-3A will

both starting at 6:15pm.
Among the boys soccer teams in action, Cy Woods is at Clear Brook and Texas City
at Angleton start at 7:00pm. In girls soccer, Santa Fe at Clear Brook and Dickinson at
Houston Sterling also begin their matches at 7:00pm.
