A LOCAL ALUM has a chance to play in the Big Game, while a warmer Tuesday
translates into the usual schedule of high school hoops and soccer that also includes
a boys basketball game featuring a pair of state-ranked teams.
Today, Sunday: Clear Springs’ Marcus Johnson suits up with an Eagles team bidding
to reach Super Bowl 52 when they host the Vikings in the NFC Championship
Game beginning at 5:40pm. A Philadelphia win would make Johnson the area’s first
Super Bowl participant since Galveston Ball’s Casey Hampton played in the last of
his three championship game appearances when the Steelers lost to the Packers in
Super Bowl 45, which was played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. KRIV-26 will air the
game live.
TOMORROW, MONDAY: Clear Creek is slated to name its new football coach during
a CCISD meeting during the evening. The new coach will replace Darrell Warden,
who retired after coaching the Wildcats to 10 playoff appearances in his 13-year stint.
The position is one of two openings that will be filled, as La Marque is expected to
name its new football coach on February 1.
The Rockets continue their homestand when they welcome the Heat for a 7:00pm
tip at Toyota Center. James Harden returned to the lineup in Thursday’s win over the
Timberwolves and will have his minutes limited as he gets back into gear following
a seven-game absence. AT&T Southwest will start its coverage at 6:30pm with the
pregame show.
TUESDAY: The boys basketball schedule is highlighted by a clash between stateranked
teams when Hitchcock meets La Marque at 7:30pm, the same time Friendswood
at Dickinson and Santa Fe at Texas City each tip off. Clear Brook at Clear
Falls, Clear Springs at Clear Creek and Galena Park at Galveston Ball each begin at
7:00pm.
In girls basketball, state-ranked Hitchcock is at La Marque beginning at 6:15pm.
Clear Falls at Clear Brook, Clear Creek at Clear Springs, Galveston Ball at Galena
Park and Texas City at Santa Fe each begin at 7:00pm.
The boys soccer schedule will have C.E. King at Clear Creek and Friendswood at
Texas City at 5:00pm, while Cinco Ranch at Clear Springs begins at 7:00pm. The
girls soccer slate will have Galveston Ball at Santa Fe, Katy at Friendswood and
Texas City at Crosby each starting at 7:00pm.
