High chance of fishing success due to low tide in area
LOWER TIDES are pushing fish to deeper channels, especially in Texas City. The
area is running strong with trout and redfish during a period of great fishing weather,
while crabs and mullet are solid bait to reel ‘em in as the first month of the year draws
closer to a quick conclusion.
BOLIVAR: Trout are fair to good on the south shoreline on slow–sinking plugs. Black
drum and redfish are good at Rollover Pass.
TRINITY BAY: Trout are fair for drifters working clam shell on the east shoreline on
Bass Assassins, Down South Lures and Bull Minnows. Redfish are good at the spillway
on crabs and mullet.
EAST GALVESTON BAY: Trout are fair to good on the north shoreline on Corkies
and MirrOlures. Whiting and sand trout are good on the edge of the Intracoastal on
fresh shrimp.
WEST GALVESTON BAY: Trout are fair to good in the mud and shell on MirrOlures
and Corkies in the afternoon. Sheepshead, redfish and black drum are good at the
jetty on shrimp and crabs.
TEXAS CITY: Black drum and redfish are fair to good in the holes in Moses Lake.
Low tides have forced many fish to deep channels.
FREEPORT: Sand trout and sheepshead are good on live shrimp on the reefs. Redfish
are fair to good at San Luis pass on cracked blue crabs. Redfish are fair to good
at the mouths of drains on Gulps and shrimp.
EAST MATAGORDA BAY: Trout are fair for drifters on Down South Lures and Bass
Assassins over scattered shell. Redfish are fair to good on the edge of the Intracoastal
and at the mouths of drains on Gulps and jigs tipped with shrimp.
WEST MATAGORDA BAY: Redfish are fair to good on the south shoreline in the
guts and bayous. Trout are fair on shell on soft plastics and finger mullet.
