The following information will be going out in a letter
from Superintendent Dr. Rodney Cavness to parents and
guardians about the change in the calendar.
We have had a very unusual 2017-2018 school year
because of weather. Rain, sleet, and snow have prevented
our students from being able to receive the level
of instruction they need in order to be successful. We
have missed a total of 13 days of instruction due to
weather related issues. That is an incredible amount of
lost instructional time. We are going to cancel the staff
development days on Monday, February 12 and Friday,
April 20 so that students can try to catch up on some of
the missed instruction. Also, please remember that after
Hurricane Harvey, we changed two early release days to
full days. One of those, October 20, has already passed.
March 23 will be a full day instead of early release.
We understand that making the changes to the calendar
may be an inconvenience for you. Please know that
the decision to make these days up are in your child’s
best academic interest. We hope that you are pleased
that we are not disrupting Spring Break, Good Friday or
Memorial Day. We are urging parents to support your
child’s academic career by getting your students to
school on both make-up days.
We thank you for all that you have done to support
Texas City ISD and we appreciate all that you continue to
do to push our district forward towards excellence.
