The Village at Tuscan Lakes is proud to present the 2nd Annual Artisan and Home Décor Market on September 29, 2018. We have many return vendors as well as new vendors to our market. Today we would like you to meet a return vendor Spec of Time, Owner Tom Steibler. Tom is originally from Long Island, New York. The cold weather drove him to move to Texas where he has been for 43 years and everyone still calls him Yank. Tom is now a retired Professional Mechanical Engineer. Photography has always been “just a hobby”, engineering was always his primary interest and it paid more. Tom has had no formal training in photography, only hard work and experience, where good camera equipment is a must. His interest in photography peaked when he began using pictures to explain equipment failures that would influence major decisions about repair/replace of major equipment. Being able to show fine details allow others to witness the failed equipment right in the office. Macro photography became his forte and allowed him to enter the world that most people don’t ever see. The realization that a good photograph could bring out things the naked eye couldn’t see is what inspired him the most. Not only can he capture a moment in time but hopefully from an entirely different perspective. A picture really is worth a thousand words, a good picture is worth a million words! Tom has stayed away from photographing people because he feels as though he is invading their privacy, perhaps stealing a part of their soul, as claimed by some people. Tom is into nature now and discovered it is very difficult to photograph a flying bird. It’s quite the challenge. He is motivated by the constant need to do better, to get that perfect shot and all that wonderful detail.
