The Galveston Art League Gallery in Texas City is
gearing up to celebrate the community’s Fall Art Walk
from 5:00pm to 9:00pm on September 22. Complimentary
refreshments will be offered to guests who
stroll the gallery at 611 6th St. N., during Texas City’s
free semi-annual celebration of art.
Made up of a three rooms decked out with colorful
paintings and photography, the Galveston Art League
Gallery will exhibit dozens of original artworks by artists
from Galveston County and the surrounding area.
All of the works are for sale.
In operation since August 2016, the art gallery has
overcome a major challenge this year. On January 7,
a vehicle crashed into the front wall, causing structural
damage. It reopened in March after repairs. The Texas
City site is a sister gallery to the nonprofit Galveston
Art League’s original location at 2117A Postoffice
St. in Galveston. Typical hours for both galleries are
noon to 6:00pm. Thursdays through Sundays.
The Galveston Art League, operated 100 percent
by volunteers, was established in 1914 to support visual
arts and arts education in Galveston County and
the surrounding region. The Art League holds an annual
fundraiser gala that is crucial to the budget supporting
the organization’s overall efforts, including the
two galleries.
This year’s gala, themed “An Evening of Art & Music,”
will be held from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. on October
6 in the San Luis Resort Grand Ballroom, 5222 Seawall
Blvd. in Galveston. For tickets and details, visit
GalvestonArtLeague.com.
Other financial support for the Art League primarily
comes from memberships ($35 and up; details at
GalvestonArtLeague.com), entry fees for the six juried
competitions held each year, commissions from
gallery sales, workshop tuition, and contributions. To
