RAIN RAIN MAKE THE BUSY WEEKEND SCHEDULE GO AWAY

WEATHER could greatly impact the usual Friday of high school football and volleyball,
as a host of disturbances in the Gulf could lead to flooding throughout
the area. Expect changes in the schedule if the forecast swings toward school
officials opting for safety.
WEDNESDAY: The Astros will close out their series at the Tigers with a 12:10pm
start. Gerrit Cole (13-5, 2.86 ERA) gets the start for Houston while Detroit will
call upon Daniel Norris (0-3, 5.47 ERA). AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will start the
day’s coverage with the pregame show beginning at 11:30am.
THURSDAY: Weather permitting, the day will be filled with a variety of subvarsity
football games throughout the area.
FRIDAY: The third week of the high school football season will have Clear Brook
at Angleton, Santa Fe at Brazoswood, Goose Creek Memorial at Clear Falls,
Texas City at Clear Lake, Dickinson at Dawson, Houston Wheatley at Galveston
Ball and Friendswood at La Porte each beginning at 7:00pm, while Hitchcock at
La Marque starts at 7:30pm.
The high school volleyball schedule starts with Hitchcock taking part in the FCH
Tournament today and Saturday. In other matches, Dickinson at Clear Falls and
Friendswod at Galena Park each start at 4:15pm, while Alvin at Clear Creek and
Clear Brook at Clear Springs will begin at 6:00pm. Santa Fe at Baytown Lee,
Crosby at Galveston Ball and Texas City at Goose Creek Memorial will start at
6:30pm.
High school boys and girls tennis teams throughout the area will arrive in Galveston
to take part in the annual Ike Classic Tournament, which falls right on the
10th anniversary of the storm that leveled the Gulf Coast.
Area high school cross country teams will be involved in two events. Texas City
will be among the teams at the Deer Invitational at Deer Park’s Jimmy Burke
Center, while Santa Fe will be among the squads competing at the Clear Creek
Invitational.
The Astros return home to host the Diamondbacks beginning at 7:10pm. Charlie
Morton (14-3, 3.15 ERA) will be opposed by Arizona’s Robbie Ray (5-2, 4.18
ERA). AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will begin coverage with the pregame show
at 6:30pm.
SATURDAY: A pair of high school football games will provide evening entertainment,
as Channelview visits Clear Creek at 6:00pm, while Clear Springs hits the
road to face George Ranch at 7:00pm.
In area college football, Houston visits Texas Tech in a game aired live on Fox-26
beginning at 3:15pm. Sam Houston State welcomes North Dakota to Huntsville’s
Bowers Stadium, with Lamar hosting Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian is
at Houston Baptist. All three games start at 6:00pm, along with Texas Southern
hosting Alcorn State while Prairie View is at Nevada-Las Vegas at 9:00pm.
Dallas Keuchel (11-10, 3.59 ERA) takes the mound for the Astros in the second
game of their weekend set against the Diamondbacks. Zack Godley (14-8, 4.15
ERA) will start for Arizona when the game starts at 6:10pm. AT&T Sportsnet
Southwest will have the game live starting with the pregame show at 5:30pm.
After two weeks of downtime, the Dynamo return to action when they host the
Portland Timbers at BBVA Compass Stadium. The match will begin at 7:30pm
and will be aired on The KUBE-57.
