This year, November 1 is a day designated by many
churches as “All Saints Day.” Who are the saints being
honored and just where can we find them? Webster’s
Dictionary defines a saint as exceptionally charitable
person who is recognized for having obtained
heaven.
The bible describes those who have been saved as
the ones who have obtained heaven. According to
bible scripture Romans 10: 9 – 10, “If you confess with
your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord that God raised
him from the dead, you will be saved. For in the heart
it is believed for righteousness and with the mouth it
is confessed for salvation.
With the truth of this definition all of the churches
on Sunday morning are loaded with believers who are
God’s saints.
In the church that I attend, St. Georges Episcopal
Church in Texas City, Jesus Christ is acknowledged
as Lord in every Sunday service. Through praying the
Nicene Creed we acknowledge Jesus Christ is Lord
and give thanks for his sacrifices. Our regular services
include a confession for sins and a Holy Communion
in remembrance of Him. Other churches do
the same in their own way, some through corporate
prayer and others through song.
Are you currently one of the saints as described
in this writing? Do not allow disbelief or guilt for your
sins to prevent your salvation. God loves you. It is
his strongest desire to obtain a personal intimate relationship
with you. He sent his only son to earth to
suffer death on a cross for the forgiveness of all of
your sins.
All of those saints, those who fill the churches in
your community are sinners. Some including notable
bible characters have committed sins far worse than
yours. Eternal salvation in heaven is a gift from God.
It cannot be earned by anyone. All that is required
is belief and confession. According to 2 Corinthians
5:17, “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new
creation, the old is gone, the new has come.”
Life is a very short period, when compared to eternity.
The ultimate goal for every person should be
spending eternity in heaven with family and friends.
Remember the scripture in Mark 8:36, “You may ignore
God and neglect your salvation – but what shall
it profit a man (person) if he (she) is to gain the whole
world and lose his (her) soul.”
