SUNDAY MAKES FOR couch potato dreamland as the Astros close out the regular season, while the Texans look to make a former local college passer’s return to Houston an uncomfortable experience. With the calendar flipping to October, the intensity of district volleyball play is dialed up in what will be another exciting Tuesday evening of action.

Sunday: Gerrit Cole (19-5, 2.52 ERA) seeks to join teammate Justin Verlander with a 20th win as he gets the nod for the Astros’ regular season finale against the Angels. Los Angeles will go with Dillon Peters (4-3, 4.72 ERA) for their final game of the 2019 season when AT&T Sportsnet Southwest launches its pregame show at 1:30pm, leading into game time at 2:07pm.

The Texans look to stretch their record to 3-1 as they welcome the 1-2 Panthers to NRG Stadium at noon. Carolina quarterback Kyle Allen – who replaces injured star Cam Newton – will be familiar to local college football fans who remember him as a starter at the University of Houston after beginning his college stint at Texas A&M. Fox 26 will have the game live.

The Dynamo complete the Houston sports trifecta when they visit Real Salt Lake beginning at 6:30pm. KUBE 57 will have the match live.

Cowboys fans get to watch their 3-0 team get the national spotlight when they take on the 2-1 Saints in New Orleans. The game will be live on KPRC 2 at 7:20pm.

Monday: Fall League softball continues at the field at Texas City High School. Games begin at 5:00pm and will run through 9:30pm.

Tuesday: A busy evening of high school volleyball ushers in the month of October. Brazosport at La Marque gets the action under way at 5:30pm, followed by Clear Brook at Alvin, Clear Creek at Clear Falls, Clear Lake at Clear Springs and Hitchcock at Tidehaven each beginning at 6:00pm. Friendswood at Baytown Lee, Galveston Ball at Goose Creek Memorial, Crosby at Santa Fe and Galena Park at Texas City wrap up the evening’s matches at 6:30pm.

Five matches are on the team tennis schedule, starting with Alvin at Clear Brook, Clear Falls at Clear Springs and Galveston Ball at Crosby at 3:00pm. Clear Creek at Dickinson is at 3:30pm, while Goose Creek Memorial at Texas City starts at 4:00pm.
