All Hail the King and Queen: Texas City enjoys homecoming week

TEXAS CITY gets to celebrate its homecoming in a week that will also see the home stretch before district championship meets in cross-country. The week concludes with a showdown that is eight months in the making with the Astros and Yankees open their highly-anticipated American League Championship Series.

Wednesday: Texas City High School will hold its Homecoming parade and Pep Rally beginning at 6:00pm. The parade will start at the intersection of 5th Ave. North and 21st Street and will end in the Texas City High School parking lot. The Pep Rally will be held in the stadium immediately following the parade, with the 2019 Homecoming King being announced.

The Stingarees will name the 2019 Homecoming Queen at halftime of their football game against Fort Bend Hightower on Friday night.

Thursday: With district meets looming, Clear Brook, Clear Creek and Galveston Ball will be among the cross-country teams participating in the Trojan Tune-Up hosted by South Houston High School. The meet will begin at 9:00am.

The Rockets will be completed with their preseason game against the Raptors long before the first cross-country runners hit the trail. The teams wrap up their two-game matchup at Saitama Stadium starting at 5:00am. NBATV will have the game live, so make sure the coffee’s ready.

Friday: The high school volleyball schedule gets an early start with Galveston Ball at Galena Park and Baytown Lee at Texas City each beginning at 4:30pm. La Marque visits Bay City at 5:30pm and will be followed by Clear Falls at Clear Brook, Clear Creek at Dickinson and Danbury at Hitchcock at 6:00pm. Friendswood at Santa Fe ends the evening’s action at 6:30pm.

There will be one team tennis contest as Clear Springs takes on Dickinson at 3:00pm.

Saturday: Barring the unforeseen, the Yankees will take on the host Astros in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series. Both teams entered Monday with 2-0 leads in their respective American League Divisional Series and a chance to eliminate the Twins and Rays, respectively. Fox and FS1 will each have coverage. Game time will be determined later in the week.

Aggies seek to lower high Tide in College Station

AN EXPLOSIVE FRIDAY OF FOOTBALL will be followed up by a Saturday of college football that will greatly impact national standings. Oklahoma and Texas meet for Big 12 superiority, while Texas A&M bids to play the role of giant killer against top-ranked Alabama. 

Thursday: No varsity games scheduled for the day.

Friday: The high school football schedule kicks off at 7:00pm with Clear Creek at Alvin, Clear Springs at Clear Brook (Challenger-Columbia Stadium), Clear Falls at state-ranked Dickinson, Friendswood at state-ranked Foster, state-ranked Shadow Creek at Galveston Ball, Sweeny at La Marque, Vidor at Santa Fe and Fort Bend Hightower at Texas City. Columbus at Hitchcock ends the evening’s action at 7:30pm.

Saturday: A huge day of college football starts early when #6 Oklahoma and #11 Texas meet in the 115th edition of the Red River Showdown at Dallas’ Cotton Bowl. Fox 26 will have the game at 11:00am. Lamar and Sam Houston State clash at 2:00pm (ESPN+), the same time Mississippi S&T visits Texas Southern. Top-ranked Alabama is at #24 Texas A&M (KHOU 11) and #25 Cincinnati is at Houston (ESPN2) at 2:30pm. Houston Baptist is on the road at Abilene Christian (ESPN3) and Prairie View at Southern (ESPN3) are each 6:00pm kickoffs.
