THE FINAL DAYS OF 2019 will see Cowboys fans hoping for a miracle, area soccer teams getting ready for matches that will start counting along with the Rockets hitting the court twice to help put the toppings on the year.
Sunday: Having clinched the AFC South, the Texans will look to make a bid for the third seed in the AFC playoffs with a win over the Titans beginning at 3:25pm. Houston won the first meeting between the two teams two weeks ago in Tennessee, and a win in front of the NRG Stadium crowd would give them an 11-5 record and momentum heading into next weekend’s Wild Card game. A win would also give the Texans the satisfaction of eliminating the Titans from the playoff chase. KHOU 11 will have the game live.
It’s win or else for the Cowboys, who host the arch rival Redskins at 3:25pm. Dallas needs a win over Washington and a Philadelphia loss to the Giants to claim the NFC East title. Anything less will trigger what will be a newsworthy offseason for the Cowboys. KRIV 26 will have the game live.
The Rockets close out a busy sports Sunday when they travel to meet the Pelicans beginning at 7:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have the pregame show starting at 6:30pm. The game can also be seen on NBA TV.
Monday: A pair of girls’ soccer scrimmages helps highlight the day as Texas City at Clear Falls starts at 2:30pm before Clear Springs takes on a squad of former Chargers in a friendly at 5:30pm.
In boys’ soccer, Friendswood takes on Tompkins and Pearland in a tri-scrimmage at The Rig in Pearland at 11:20am. La Porte visits Texas City for a 2:00pm scrimmage.
There’s one boys’ basketball game on the slate with Cy Creek at Clear Creek starting at 4:00pm. In the only girls’ basketball game on the schedule, Clear Falls is at Dawson beginning at 11:30am.
Tuesday: The year (and decade) comes to a close with a trio of boys’ basketball games. La Porte at Clear Brook tips off at 1:00pm. Hitchcock at Coldspring gets underway at while state-ranked La Marque is at rival Galveston Ball at 3:00pm.
One girls’ soccer scrimmage is on the schedule with Friendswood at Clear Lake at 2:00pm. The day’s only boys’ soccer scrimmage comes when Clear Brook travels to Dawson for a 12:00pm tune-up.
The Rockets continue their New Year’s Eve tradition with a 6:00pm home date against the Nuggets. The game will be aired on AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starting at 5:30pm with the pregame show.
