New Year – Moving into a New Season of Usefulness

Jeremiah 1:11-12

There is one thing that people hate: it is CHANGE. People do not like change. They have their own comfort zones and love to stay in it. They will do anything to stay where they are. They will give every excuse in the books. But the reality is, God works in seasons, in people, in families, in churches and in nations and that involves a change.

Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8,

There is a season to sow, and a season to reap. When God says, “Son, daughter, it’s time for this season to shift.” we fight, because we do not like changes. We want God to use us. We pray, “Lord use me,” and when the Lord says “It is time” for the season to shift, we resist and make excuses. Some of us actually run away.

In order to move from our present state, we must shift. Without shifting, we will remain where we are.

A shifting ensures that we get what has been assigned to us.

God must break our will for anything good to happen.

At times, shifting becomes so hard that God has to break our comfort zones. It’s God that has shifted or broken them. He will not let our foot be dashed against the rocks. Nothing wrong is going to happen. God has it under control. Just submit and surrender to His will.

God gives us insight to see our new season. He wants us to be able to see beyond circumstances and the present change that is going on. He wants us to be able to see the divine season that He has ready for us.

When shifting into a new season, we will face doubts, fears, and speculations. We might give lots of excuses just like Jeremiah did.

Shift in Season – In Jeremiah’s Life

Jeremiah 1:4-6 — 4, The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” 6 “Alas, Sovereign LORD,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.”

Jeremiah was known as the weeping prophet. Because of the anguish he knew in his ministry. He underwent great hardships and trials for the message he delivered. The message he delivered was not a popular one. He wept because of the fate of Israel.

Obeying his call, he urged his countrymen to surrender to Babylon, whom God showed him to be the instrument of His chastisement sent to discipline God’s people. Jeremiah lived to see his words come true. Jeremiah was imprisoned, his life threatened, and his ministry constantly rejected by God’s people. The Lord had some convincing to do before Jeremiah could be launched in to the ministry as a prophet.

Jeremiah had a hard time shifting and accepting a new season in his life. The Lord points out several truths to Jeremiah.

*He knew Him before he was formed in the mother’s womb.

*I have set you apart because you are special

*I have appointed you as a prophet to the nations.

God was taking him into his next season; Jeremiah only wanted to make excuses:

*I am only a child.

*I am not a good speaker.

Jeremiah was concerned that he did not speak with eloquence, so people would take him seriously. Jeremiah was busy pointing out why he cannot. Lord revealed to Jeremiah his time to shift into a new season; Jeremiah could not see it.

When God says it’s time, it’s time even if we do not see eye to eye. We have our fears, we have our problems, we glorify our trials. We fail to see through the eyes of God.

If we could see as God sees, we would know that most human fears never materialize. The things we spend our time worrying over are never going to happen. Maybe this is why Jesus said:

Matthew 6:24 — Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

In our depressing moments of financial stress, illness, or family problems, we brood over questions without answers.

1 Corinthians 10:13 — …God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

If we could see as God sees, we would understand that no trial comes without a blessing attached. It cannot be seen in advance.
