A SENSE OF NORMALCY arrives on Monday when most area high schools begin their first day of fall practice in football, volleyball and cross-county. It won’t take long for volleyball season to get underway but Texas City and Friendswood get the honor to welcome Class 5A and 6A sports back to the area when they square off on the tennis courts on Tuesday.

The Rockets clash with the Lakers in Game Two of their Western Conference semifinal series. KTRK (ABC13) will have the game live at 7:00pm.

Monday: Labor Day will feel like New Year’s Day for most area high school athletes as today marks the first day that Class 5A and 6A performers can start football, volleyball and cross country practice. That means Clear Brook, Clear Creek, Clear Falls, Clear Springs, Dickinson, Friendswood, Galveston Ball, Santa Fe and Texas City will finally get their opportunity to hit the field,

It will be a late Labor Day start for the Astros as Cristian Javier (4-1, 3.35 ERA) gets the nod for Houston in the series opener at Oakland. The host Athletics will go with Chris Bassitt (2-2, 3.72 ERA) when AT&T Sportsnet Southwest airs the game at 8:10pm, shortly after the pregame show that starts at 7:30pm.

Tuesday: Texas City opens the 2020 team tennis schedule when they visit Friendswood at 4:00pm.

Zack Greinke (2-0, 2.63 ERA) starts for the Astros at the Athletics beginning at 8:10pm. As of Friday’s press time, the Athletics had not made an announcement on who will start for them. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts its pregame show at 7:30pm.

The Rockets play the role of “home team” in the Orlando bubble as they “welcome” the Lakers for Game Three of their Western Conference semifinal series. TNT will have the game live at 8:00pm, with AT&T Sportsnet Southwest slated to start its coverage with the pregame show at 7:30pm.
