Houston Baptist University junior Christopher Welch was named the Southland Conference’s indoor track and field Athlete of the Year. The Dickinson High School alum is the first HBU athlete in any sport to receive an SL Player/Athlete of the Year award. Welch won the conference triple jump by more than three feet and finished 12th overall in last weekend’s NCAA indoor track and field championships in Fayetteville, AR.
