Austin awaits as next month’s track and field state titles loom. Districts 22-5A and 24-3A will hold their meets this week, with the qualifiers moving one step closer to state glory. Meanwhile, the home stretch gets closer for high school baseball and softball teams as Friday will be a make-or-break moment for area teams.
Wednesday: The road to next month’s track and field state finals in Austin begins as Districts 24-5A and 24-3A begin the first of two days of championships. The 24-5A meet will be held at Santa Fe High School, while the 24-3A event will take place at Columbia High School.
The Rockets welcome the Mavericks for a 7:00pm date at Toyota Center. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage with the pregame show at 6:30pm.
Thursday: The Astros take on the Athletics in Houston’s 2021 opener at Minute Maid Park. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest gets an early start with the pregame show at 6:00pm, followed by the game itself at 7:10pm.
Friday: Deer Park is home to a huge tennis tourney that will include Clear Brook, Clear Creek, Clear Falls, Clear Springs and Galveston Ball. The action gets underway at 6:30am.
The high school softball schedule begins with Hitchcock at Brazos and Columbia at La Marque at 5:00pm, followed by Dickinson at Clear Brook, Clear Creek at Clear Lake, Brazoswood at Clear Springs, Friendswood at La Porte, Manvel at Galveston Ball and Baytown Sterling at Texas City at 6:30pm.
In high school baseball, Clear Creek at Clear Brook, Clear Springs at Clear Falls, Baytown Sterling at Galveston Ball, Bay City at La Marque and Santa Fe at Texas City each start at 6:00pm. Hitchcock at Brazos begins at 7:00pm.
District 24-6A wrestlers will compete to advance as the two-day meet begins with girls’ action at Clear Falls. The boys will have their time to shine on Saturday.
AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts its coverage of the second game of the weekend set between the Astros and Athletics starting at 6:30pm. Gametime will be at 7:10pm.
In the opener of a three-game swing out west, the Rockets take on the Clippers beginning at 9:00pm. Territorial restrictions apply here beginning with the pregame show at 8:30pm.
