State stories: track, tennis events highlight road to finals

Mid-April means the road to state championships are being paved on track and field and tennis courts across the area. The week also means the final games of the high school baseball and softball regular season are reaching their respective conclusions.

Wednesday: The District 22-5A tennis title will be on the line as the district’s best compete at the Galveston Ball Tennis Courts.

La Marque will be among those completing in the 4A, Region IV meet at Fulton High School. The qualifiers advance to next month’s state finals in Austin.

It’s an early start time for the Astros, who conclude their three-game set against the visiting Tigers beginning at 6:10pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest (territorial restrictions apply, kids) will begin coverage at 5:30pm witht the pregame show.

The Rockets will welcome the Pacers to Toyota Center for an 8:00pm clash that will be aired on AT&T Sportsnet Southwest. The pregame show will begin at 7:30pm.

Thursday: The best of District 24-6A’s tennis performers square off as contenders will seek a chance to advance to the regionals.

Track and field attention will be at Alief’s Crump Stadium for a clash between the best of Districts 23-5A and 24-5A and Districts 23-6A and 24-6A

Friday: The high school softball schedule starts with Hitchcock at East Bernard at 5:00pm and Needville at La Marque at 6:00pm. Clear Springs at Clear Brook, Brazoswood at Clear Falls, Dickinson at Clear Lake, Friendswood at Manvel, Goose Creek Memorial at Santa Fe and Galveston Ball at Texas City each start at 6:30pm.

In high school baseball, Dickinson at Clear Brook, Clear Lake at Clear Creek, Brazoswood at Clear Springs, Manvel at Friendswood, Galveston Ball at Texas City and Columbia at La Marque each start at 6:00pm. Hitchcock at East Bernard starts at 7:00pm.

The Rockets meet the explosive Nuggets, who make their appearance at Toyota Center for a 7:00pm tip. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest begins coverage at 6:30pm with the pregame show.

Saturday: No sporting events scheduled.
