Well, it’s not the Final Four most of us envisioned, but the national college basketball championship semifinals will be held at NRG Stadium on Saturday. Florida Atlantic takes on San Diego State at 5:09pm, while Connecticut collides with a Miami (Fla.) team that took out both top-seed Houston and second-seed Texas beginning at approximately 7:49pm. KHOU11 will have both games live. 

Wednesday: The Rockets conclude their east coast swing when they visit the Nets beginning at 6:30pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have coverage beginning at 6:00pm with the pregame show.

Thursday: Friendswood, Santa Fe and Texas City will be among the schools participating in the District 18-5A tennis tournament, which will be held at the Friendswood High School tennis courts through Friday afternoon.

The majority of area schools will be at Dickinson for the annual Hanna Relays, as each of the five CCISD schools will be joined by La Marque and Texas City, among others. Meanwhile, Hitchcock will host its own meet that will see some of the best schools in 4A and 3A arrive at Bulldogs Stadium.

It’s Opening Night for the defending World Series champion Astros, who will unveil their WS title banner before taking on the White Sox at 6:00pm Framber Valdez gets the honor to make the first start of the year for Houston in a game that can be seen on ESPN, and on AT&T Sportsnet Southwest, which starts its pregame show at 5:00pm.

Friday: The month of March ends with a high school baseball slate that starts with Clear Lake at Clear Brook, Santa Fe at Clear Creek, Clear Falls at Dickinson, Brazoswood at Clear Springs, and state-ranked Friendswood at Texas City at 6:00pm. Galveston Ball at La Porte and Hitchcock at East Bernard both start at 7:00pm.

The high school softball schedule begins with Hitchcock at East Bernard at 6:00pm, followed by Clear Falls at Clear Brook, Brazoswood at Clear Creek, Dickinson at Clear Springs, Friendswood at Galveston Ball, state-ranked Santa Fe at La Porte, and Texas City at Manvel each start at 6:30pm.

Continuing their opening series of the season, the Astros host the White Sox at 7:10pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage at 6:30pm.

The Rockets host the Pistons in the first of their final three home games of the regular season beginning at 7:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts its pregame show at 6:30pm.

Saturday: With the Final Four in town, the Astros will host the White Sox at 1:10pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage at 1:10pm.
